Cincinnati Jewish Burial Practices During the First Two Years of the COVID-19 Pandemic: March 2020-March 2022

With changes occurring in the burial practices due to pandemic protocols, I was curious about how they have changed over the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. As I serve as the Director of Pastoral Care at a senior living facility, where I have encountered deaths, burials, and more, I was curious as to how these changes have taken place throughout the first two years of this pandemic.

As such, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to speak with David Harris, the executive director of the Jewish Cemeteries of Greater Cincinnati, which liaised with rabbis and congregations to come up with suitable and safe policies around the pandemic.

I have published this presentation for the benefit of the residents of the senior living facility where I work, as they have experienced these changes, especially as they have been to funerals and burials of friends and family, in order to better provide them with a context of these changes. Of course, once this presentation is out there, I wanted to make it more broadly available to the interested public, as well.

I hope you enjoy:
